DIY Idea: Customizing Your Yarn!

Posted by Lianka on

In an effort to get more familiar with the crochet blogging community, I’ve been doing a lot of research and reading A LOT of blogs these past few weeks. I have found some amazingly creative people out there on the blogosphere, and some of my favorites have been doing some incredibly unique things with yarn. I love the DIY spirit of these yarn-customizing tutorials—by taking a plain and simple ball of yarn and transforming it into something special and fun, it adds a whole other level of creativity to your crochet projects.

The best part about these projects? They’re super affordable, and you probably already have most of these “ingredients” on hand!

I was very intrigued by this DIY Glow In The Dark yarn tutorial, courtesy of Tanya at Hodgepodge Crochet. With Halloween right around the corner, I’m already gearing up with lots of spooky decorations—this could be the perfect finishing touch to a Halloween-themed crochet wreath, or maybe even a kid’s costume.

So creative, right? Plus, the glow paint only cost her about 50 cents! I think it would be an amazing idea for a Halloween project.

This next tutorial comes from everyone’s favorite, Mikey from The Crochet Crowd. He shows us how to dye yarn using…of all things…Kool Aid packets! The results are spectacular and super unique—you’ll never get the same result twice! Plus, it’ll smell delicious.

I also liked his suggestions for getting a more creative end result by combining colors or twisting it up and tying it off to get an interesting tie-dye effect.

If you’re like me and prefer to have someone else do the dirty work for you, Bonita’s got you covered We’re super excited to announce our newest collection of shimmer Angora yarn! Its metallic shades add an unexpected twist to your creations and it’s got that special DIY flair…without the Kool Aid smell

Have you ever tried DIYing any of your yarn? How did it turn out? I’d love to know!
